Support Daughter's Recovery from CRPS and Surgery
Donation protected
I am raising funds to help with various needs and appointments during my daughters recovery. She recently went in for knee surgery on Nov 20, 2024, for MPFL (medial patellofemoral ligament) reconstruction of her right knee as it kept dislocating on her. They got in there and ended up doing the MPFL reconstruction along with chondroplasty lateral patellar facet, lateral retinacular lengthening, and diagnostic arthroscopy. During surgery, they found cartilage damage (grade 2) that they cleaned up best they could and told us it was rare for someone her age, 15, to see that. They said she would be a candidate for total knee replacement in the future, whenever that would be, hopefully not for many more years. They also found the patella to have tilted more and tried to straighten that out. She has been in extreme pain (11/10) pretty much since surgery, and pain medications don't help. She was even admitted for overnight observation the day following her surgery for pain management. She has since been unable to move her right leg on her own and can only wiggle her toes, even with several physical therapy appointments. It's cold to the touch from the knee down and tingling/numb. We continue to do passive range of motion exercises to work the muscles, even if she can't participate herself by moving her leg.
At her two-week post-op, the surgeon referred us to a pain management clinic, and she was able to be seen on Friday, Dec 6, 2024. At this appointment, the pain management doctor diagnosed my daughter with CRPS (complex regional pain syndrome) and functional neurological disorder (conversion disorder) with paralysis/weakness. Both are rare, affecting 1.2 per 100,000 people, especially someone her age, and 2-5% of the population in a clinical setting. This brings about extreme/severe pain in her leg pretty much constantly, affecting her daily activities in one way or another, making recovery harder. Pain medications do nothing. She will have to have physical therapy and occupational therapy both twice a week, and counseling. It is making school quite challenging and work for mom quite challenging, taking time off work without pay and trying to manage finances also. They are certain she will regain movement of her leg again but are unsure as to when, so we continue appointments pretty much daily. It is gonna get rough before it gets better, I'm told, and something she will most likely face on and off her whole life (it can go into remission, I'm told). They will be doing ultrasounds to check blood flow to her lower leg as it is so cold, and a nerve study at the first of the year to rule out any nerve damage from surgery that could be causing the paralysis of her leg. At home, she's able to use crutches to move around the house, but at school and in public, she mostly uses a wheelchair as her leg is unstable and can’t walk far.
we are a one income household being a single momma. With that i am raising funds to help offset the cost of missing work to help with various other needs we may encounter and need.
So if you feel led to help during this time of need, thank you in advance as we have a long road ahead of us with many, many appointments. God provides our every need and knew this would happen right now before she was born, mind-blowing, I know.(Psalms 139:15) So we will keep trusting Him and cling to Jeremiah 29:11-13.
