Hi everyone, my name is Daryana.

I never imagined I’d be in a position where I had to ask for help like this, but my heart is breaking and I’m reaching out for my baby emu who means the absolute world to me.

He is only four months old, but in that short time, he’s become my shadow, my companion, my joy. Emus are incredibly delicate during the first six months of life — it's a critical period where they’re vulnerable to everything. So many don’t make it. But not him. He’s already overcome so much — from temperature challenges to learning how to eat, grow, and balance on those wobbly legs.

He’s a fighter. Every day he's been here has been a battle he’s bravely won.

But now, he’s facing his biggest challenge yet. A sudden accident left him with two fractures in his right leg, and it’s left him confused, in pain, and unable to stand like he used to. For an emu — a bird whose entire body relies on strong, stable legs — this is life-threatening. Without immediate treatment, he will never walk again, or worse.

The veterinary team believes with the right care — including immediate surgery, intensive rehabilitation, and round-the-clock support — he has a real shot at healing. But the costs are staggering. I’m currently looking at over $12,000 to cover everything he needs to recover fully.

He’s still fighting. He wants to live so badly. He wants to run in the yard again, peck at shiny things, and come lay beside me after a long day like he always does. And I want to give him every chance to do that.
