Our family recently received an update on Darrick’s condition, and it’s been a difficult road. His mind has become severely impaired — he struggles to remember people, events, and even recent moments. Forming new memories has become extremely challenging.

Everyday tasks that most of us take for granted — getting dressed, standing, walking, or speaking — now require maximum assistance. His speech is moderately impaired, and physically he needs help with nearly every movement.

The hospital has set a discharge date for November 14th, but they expect Darrick will still need significant assistance even after that point. The current plan is for a skilled care placement near Cedar Rapids so he can receive the ongoing support he needs. Depending on his progress, he may eventually need to transition into a long-term care facility.

We continue to get updates on his progress every week, and we’re holding onto hope that he’ll keep improving with the right care and support.

All funds raised will go directly toward Darrick’s medical expenses, rehabilitation, and long-term care needs, as well as helping our family manage the financial strain that comes with this unexpected situation.
