On January 21st, Darren went into the hospital for stomach pains, which led to the discovery of an abscess on his liver. After a 7-day stay, he was sent home with a drain and a PICC line, monitored weekly by a nurse. Two weeks later, Darren developed a fever and was rushed back to the hospital. After countless tests and another 7-day stay, his medications were changed and one final test was scheduled. That test revealed he has malignant melanoma. We still don’t know the staging or severity, and a treatment plan hasn’t been mapped out yet.
On top of this, our landlord decided not to honor our lease renewal, so we are now searching for a new home with only one income. Darren has not been able to work since he first became sick, and we are unsure where our family will go. Multiple assistance agencies have been contacted, but our requests have been denied. The funds raised will go directly to medical bills, costs, housing, and utilities, helping us stay afloat during this incredibly difficult time.
Thank you to anyone who donates, sends love and prayers, or even a warm sentiment our way. You have no idea how much any of it means to us—just knowing there are people who care gives Darren the strength to keep pushing and fighting. He is a wonderful, loving husband, father to all of his kids, and a talented chef. He deserves this chance.
