My sister Darlene has been bravely facing metastatic breast cancer (MBC), and recently her journey took an unexpected turn. Last weekend, she was in extreme pain down her left hip and leg, unable to find relief. After a trip to the ER and a series of tests—including an MRI, CT scan, and sonogram—she was diagnosed with Avascular necrosis (AVN). This painful condition causes bone tissue to die and weaken, made worse by the lesions and tumors she’s been fighting.

Because of this, Darlene needed a full hip replacement surgery last Monday. She finally came home yesterday, and while the pain has been intense, she’s pushing through the rough days with incredible strength and hope. Every day she’s working hard to heal and adjust to her new reality, but the challenges of recovery and ongoing treatment are significant.
