My friend and co-worker, Darla, and her husband Mike are facing an unimaginable challenge. On June 13, 2026, while doing yard work together, Mike’s speech suddenly became distorted. After a quick 9-1-1 call and admission to the hospital, doctors discovered that Mike had a brain tumor. Just days later, on June 19, Mike underwent surgery to remove most of the tumor. Following his discharge, he was diagnosed with glioblastoma—a difficult and aggressive form of brain cancer.
Mike has started physical and speech therapy to regain his strength and abilities, and will soon begin radiation and chemotherapy as soon as final biopsy results determine the mutation type. Darla and Mike had just purchased their first home together in May 2026, hoping to start a new chapter. Now, Mike is unable to work, and Darla is missing many hours to transport him to appointments. The medical bills are beginning to roll in, and between missed work, short term disability earnings, and the costs of traveling to and from appointments, finances are becoming a heavy worry.
While we don’t know all the answers right now, we do know that quality time is precious. Funds raised will help cover medical bills, therapy appointments, travel, gas, groceries, and new homeownership expenses. This support will allow Darla to be fully present with Mike during this challenging time. He is in good spirits, and they are both taking it one day at a time. While you may not directly know Mike and Darla, it would mean the world to them if you would model generosity to a stranger in need. They have hearts of gold and would return the favor if able to. Any amount would greatly be appreciated.
