On behalf of our family, we are asking for prayers, support, and assistance for Darius “DJ” Jones, who is currently fighting for his life after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest.

In an unimaginable moment, his significant other had to perform CPR before emergency responders arrived. Because of her quick actions and the tireless work of his medical team, DJ is still here fighting. He is now in the ICU on ECMO support for both his heart and lungs, facing a long and uncertain road to recovery.

This devastating emergency comes after months of unimaginable hardship. In March, DJ’s son, Drex, was seriously injured after being struck by a driver who failed to stop for a school bus. Just weeks later, DJ lost his father. Even while carrying that emotional weight, DJ continued to show up for others, just as he always has.

That is who DJ is.

Darius is more than a patient; he is a devoted father, loving partner, mentor, coach, and a respected leader across the Charlotte and Chicago communities and throughout the football world. He has spent years pouring into young people, guiding them toward brighter futures through football, education, discipline, and opportunity. Many have gone on to college, professional sports, and successful careers because he believed in them.

He is also a proud member of the Rho Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., where he exemplifies leadership, mentorship, and true brotherhood. Known for his compassion, dependability, and service, DJ has consistently uplifted others, always offering guidance, encouragement, and support to those who needed it most.

He has always been someone others could count on.

Now, he needs us.

As DJ continues this fight, the emotional and financial strain on his family continues to grow. His significant other remains by his side every day while caring for their son and navigating the uncertainty ahead. Doctors anticipate a long recovery that may include extensive rehabilitation, long-term heart support, and potentially even a heart transplant.
