Support Darcy Nelson's Fight Against Cancer

My name is Lori Oak. I have been best friends with Darcy Nelson for 24 years, after my family moved in across the street from Darcy, John and the boys. We were introduced to each other by my daughter, Hope, when she was just four years old. (She is 28 now) My son Tanner and their boys Josh and Noah became inseparable and best friends early on, which brought us adults together as friends and ultimately, we all became family. When Josh died in 2013, I felt like I lost my son too, and my kids also lost their brother. Halloween of 2000 is what we call our “friendaversary” as we met that day after trick-or-treating at their house, which became an annual event for us all.
I’m starting this GoFundMe to help my friend as she was first diagnosed with Systemic Lupus in November of 2023,ironically, just 2 months after opening her business, Darcy’s Specialty Cleaners. The autoimmune disease of Lupus affected her ability to operate her business to the full capacity as she was once able to do and just as she was learning to live with the disease and function in life and in business, she was diagnosed with lung cancer this past July, 2024. On October 11th, 2024 She underwent surgery to have the lobe of her lung removed where the cancer was found along with multiple lymph nodes. Unfortunately, during the surgery she suffered a heart attack which left only 35% of her heart functioning. She had 2 stents put in her heart with a third one to be put in within this next month or so. As if all this wasn’t enough for Darcy to deal with, she ended up septic and almost lost her life. Thankfully, she was out of the woods and discharged from the hospital on October 18th, but was re-admitted a few days later when she had to have a chest tube put in to drain the fluid that had began to form around her lungs. She’s since been discharged a third time, but due to all of the medical issues, she’s going to need help with medical & living expenses for her and her 2 daughters, Summer & Peyton, their dog Jagger, and cat Purr-tricia. The future of her business is unknown at this point along with the fact that we do not know if she is going to have to undergo radiation or chemotherapy or both.
Myself and her family are asking you to please consider donating to help with expenses so she can concentrate on her health.
We sincerely thank you in advance for any donation, big or small, or none at all, as thoughts and prayers are accepted and just as valuable!
Thank you,
Lori Oak
