Support Dan Smith's Recovery from Motorcycle Accident

Donation protected
Dan was involved in a severe motorcycle accident on Monday July 15th when coming home from work to his wife and 3 week old daughter. He was driving down Blair Rd when a man in a Ford truck left a stop sign at the exact wrong time, hitting him with his brushguard and sending Dan and his motorcycle into the guard rail where he then flew about 20 ft away onto the ground. By the grace of God, many good people were there and came to his aid and called for help. Bystanders noted that his left leg and arm were both twisted the opposite way but that he was thankfully conscious and coherent through all of it. Paramedics arrived and quickly determined that he would be airlifted via helicopter to UT Medical Center.

Upon arrival, they intubated him, and for 6 whole minutes his heart stopped. Thankfully they were able to revive him after opening up his chest and massaging his heart. Many doctors have since noted that he is extremely lucky to be alive, and that most who have that scar do not live to tell about it. We are extremely lucky that he is still with us.

Along with that, he has had his spleen removed and his kidney splinted. His lungs are in bad shape but will hopefully make a full recovery on their own in time. His femur and forearm were shattered and have been surgically repaired with rods and screws. He also has a broken fibula that didn't require surgery, as well as a long laundry list of other slightly less pressing injuries.

Dan has always been adamant about wearing protective gear on the motorcycle, and thankfully his helmet prevented any head or spinal injuries. We are extremely grateful for that as well as this would surely be a different story.

Update as of 7/22:
He is out of the ICU after having spent a week there getting his surgeries done and is now in the process of a slow recovery in the trauma wing of the hospital. Once they clear him from the hospital, he'll be moved to a rehab facility for physical therapy before he will be able to move back home with his wife and family.

We don't yet know how long this will take, so this GoFundMe has been created to help with his medical bills and the long amount of time that he'll be out of work with these injuries. Please send your prayers for a continued recovery and donate as you are able for Dan and his family.
