On December 21, 2025, Danny was found wandering and confused on a rural road near his home in Oregon. He suffered five ischemic strokes, all severe, impacting the cognitive functions of his brain. He suffers from a disease called Familial Hypertriglyceridemia (FHTG).
Danny is an extremely brilliant man who meticulously took care of his health, played hockey, rode his mountain bike, and was gearing up for retirement with his little lot in the woods. He spent the last 45 years as an independent roofing contractor, and his work was highly respected. You can see he has the hands of a hardworking man!
A great husband, father, son, brother, and friend — that is who he is. A good Christian man, he has shown many acts of selfless kindness over the years — too many to mention. One standout act was when he flew to Alaska to put a roof on the home of his best friend's dying sister, refusing any payment. Until my mom passed away this November, despite the distance, he called her daily. He was closer to her than if he had lived just a few miles away—a very loving and grateful son.
Now, Danny can no longer care for himself or provide for his loyal wife, Lisa, who has steadfastly been by his side. Lisa has been attempting to manage the responsibilities that Danny normally handled and has specifically been navigating the complexities of his medical care to ensure he is transferred to the specialised facilities and receives the best possible treatment. She is able to provide the constant love and emotional support that Danny needs that the medical staff can't really provide.
With no suitable home nearby, Lisa has resorted to staying in hotels close to the hospital, providing care that complements the doctors' efforts in ways only someone who loves him could. The next year will be critical for Danny's recovery; he will need significant resources to stay near the hospital for necessary therapy, much of which will incur out-of-pocket expenses.
In addition to his immediate medical needs, Danny was in the middle of adding a second floor to his home, constructing the trusses himself before his health abruptly declined. Tragically, his home suffered severe water damage after being left exposed for several days, rendering most of his valuables destroyed and the house uninhabitable until extensive repairs are made.
This situation has left Lisa and Danny in a precarious position, making it even more challenging to navigate his recovery. They now face the daunting task of rebuilding their home in tandem with Danny’s long rehabilitation journey. Your support could lighten their burden immensely during this difficult time. Any financial assistance you can provide to help Danny return to a restored home and continue his recovery would be profoundly appreciated.
