Support Dan's Fight against Pancreatic Cancer

Hi Everyone,

I know many of you already know what my Dad, Dan Welu is going through. For those of you that don't, I want to use this as a platform to stand on and tell a little bit about our last 5 months.

Rewind back to April 21' my Dad was having a lot of pains in his belly/side that had seemed to start developing a few months prior. The pains were getting to a point where they were really affecting his sleep, his family doctor showed they didn't seem to care about what was going on with my Dad. One afternoon my Mom decided enough was enough, they were going to go to the ER and finally get some kind of results. They had thought after discussing for hours that Dad may be going through issues with his Gull Bladder and they needed to get attention.

The results of the ER was a lot of Tests and such that revealed that my Dad had Pancreatic Cancer, it was at Stage 4, and had already metastasized to his Liver and Lymph nodes. As you can imagine, that was pretty devastating news.

Dad swiftly met with an oncologist and started his first bout of Chemo, at that time they gave him an estimated life expectancy of 1 - 2 years. That was another tough pill to swallow, but we forged forward with Chemo knowing it would bring with it a lot of tough times.

Dad had gone through 3 different types of chemo, over the course of about 4.5 months, roughly every 2 weeks. Last Wednesday, September, 15th his oncologist gave him the very saddening and unfortunate news that the chemo is only doing harm. Dad has been put on hospice care and they are stopping by a few times a week to check on Dad and help with occasional IV infusions. There are 50+ spots on Dad's liver, and he was told that he has roughly a month of life left. If his liver fails, he will likely only have 2 - 3 days.

This has been a very trying time for my family, and aside from fighting cancer it seems like everything has worked against them through this time. As you would imagine, medical bills haven't stopped accruing. To add to that, they didn't have AC through the month of June as their AC went bad they had to replace the entire geo-thermal unit. There were times we would go to visit and the house was 90+ degrees.

Needless to say, there will need to be a lot of changes made. The purpose of the go fund me: I hope to raise some money to assist my parents with the heavy lifts that are going to unfortunately be coming down the pipes.

I want to end this on a more happy note, I love my Dad to no end.

I can tell my Dad that all day, though I don't know if I've ever told everyone publicly how proud of him I am. Dad has been the hardest working man I have ever known, which also required him to be insanely smart. Have you ever tried talking to my Dad about electricity?! Dad worked as a substation electrician crew leader, and happened to just retire, he wanted to keep working of course.

Dad has been happily married to my Mom for what will be 42 years come October, 11th. I have been praying for them to get to celebrate together. (And for MUCH more time of course)

One more line for you Dad, THANK YOU for everything that you have done for all of us. I want you to be pain free and here forever, but I promise you when you leave, that I will see you again.

Please pray for my Dad, if you are able to help in any way we appreciate you!

Thank You,

Adam Welu
