Support Danny & Scott — Journey to Restore Our Home

Hello everyone, it’s Danny and Scott. Thank you for making time to read this, and we certainly hope this message finds you well. As many of you know, we live in Burnsville, North Carolina—a smaller, rural mountain community which was hit hard by Hurricane Helene. Experiencing life unfolding around us since the storm, we see how fortunate we are to have survived this disaster, though our home was severely damaged. Like many in our area, we’re learning what it means to survive a tragedy. And we’re really just beginning to grasp the scope of what will be an arduous journey to restore our home, property, and livelihood. We’re grateful that we came to settle in an area where folks regularly share hand-to-hand support. We are here for them as they’ve been for us, all along. Nonetheless, it feels super-uncomfortable composing this post and we’re struggling with the notion of being seen through the lens of pity. Although we’re aware that these are extenuating circumstances, it’s hard to shake that feeling. Friends, loved ones, and other kind folks are compassionately asking what we need or what can be done to help us survive. So, despite the awkward feelings, we’ve written this message to address the charity being offered.
The one thing that would honestly be the most helpful to us right now, is money. The energy of money facilitates solutions across our spectrum of needs, as we face the many challenges and setbacks we’re encountering in the wake of the hurricane. We’re identifying new issues and necessities daily, as we work to restore our home and lives. Winter is coming and there’s an indeterminate timeline for the major work needed to repair our home. Our income was interrupted, and the bills and dollar needs are mounting. However, our means are not. We’re asking for help to survive while we reorient, stabilize, and strategize our rebuilding process. We understand that some folks may feel more comfortable with directly gifting specific goods, services, etc. Either of us are gladly willing to share a list of things that will provide relief while we rebuild. So again, thank you for your time, energy, and love. Anything that you’re able to share will help us, and everything we’re able to share forward will continue to help our area heal however possible.
Sent with love & gratitude,
