Hello, my name is Alejandra Magaña, and I am writing this with a heavy heart on behalf of our family. Recently, we lost my brother, Daniel "Danny" Magaña. He was arrested, and while he was in custody, he passed away.

Danny had a 26-year history of mental illness and had no criminal record. What he truly needed during this crisis was medical help and a psychiatric hospital, not a jail cell. We attempted every course to advocate for him and his care and were met with unwillingness to help from a broken system.

Our family is completely devastated by this preventable tragedy and struggling to process the reality of losing Danny while he was in custody at LA County Jail in Central LA. From the beginning, we have been left with little to no information or answers about the circumstances surrounding his death.

We hesitated to ask for help or financial support. However, we have been deeply moved by the overwhelming number of people who loved Danny and wish to contribute to his memory. The love and support for our brother, and the connection to our family are undeniably incredible. We are profoundly grateful for every single person that has already helped. And those who continue to offer their assistance.

Danny was a hard-working man who always provided for his children. He leaves behind five beautiful children who now have to navigate life without him. His eldest daughter, now 22, was just 4 years old when Danny lovingly stepped into the role of her father and raised her as his own. He also took another son under his wing when he was only 6 years old, becoming a father figure in his life and remaining one throughout the years; he is now 18. Danny also leaves behind his three younger boys, ages 11, 13, and 14. Danny, being a father was never defined simply by blood, it was defined by love and presence.

We are setting up this fund to help with two immediate needs:

1. Funeral and Memorial Services: To secure a proper, respectful service so we can say our final goodbyes and honor Danny the way he deserves.

2. Immediate Support for His Children: To help cover urgent, day-to-day needs for his kids as our family works together to support them through this unimaginable transition.
