On April 2nd, my cousin Danny Gallagher had about an hour left of his shift at his new job he had just started. During that time before he was done, he had called his mom and expressed that his head was hurting and feeling extremely overstimulated.
This was his second day on the job, and was so delighted to have a new beginning after some time out of work. For those of you who don’t know, Danny has struggled tremendously this past year and he was determined to turn his life around for the better. He had just turned 24, bought a home, and was ready to take on life as best he could, and the first step was getting back into work.
As he was coming to the end of his shift, Danny suddenly fell unconscious and went straight backward and cracked his skull onto concrete floor. He was found by a coworker, where he was unconscious and was rushed with bells and whistles to an emergency room. Paramedics acted fast, and found he had an Epidural Brain Bleed, and they needed to act fast.
After being rushed to a trauma center, the incredible doctors took Danny’s life into their hands and performed life-saving surgery on the right side of his brain to help drain the blood, and fix his left eye that was damaged from the fall. We are unclear what caused Danny to pass out, as he is a young, healthy man.
After extensive surgery, Danny made it through where he was later sent to the ICU. He was being supported by a breathing tube and other medical equipment. Danny is being supported by his mother Stacey, father Shanon, his little brother Matty, and myself as well as other family far and near.
After a couple of days Danny is now able to breathe on his own, and is able to function the right side of his body, as we patiently wait for his left side to gain back the strength. He is able to squeeze his right hand, bend his right leg, and lift his right arm. But this is just the beginning of miracles for him.
If anyone knows Danny, they know he is a fighter and his strength is admirable. He is fighting the fight, and we know he is determined to get better with not only his own strength and courage, but of his loved ones supporting him at this time.
We are asking for any kind of donation at this time to help support the family, as well as his incomprehensible medical bill he will be left with. We are looking at a couple of weeks of him being in the ICU, with the average cost of $12,000 a night. Though we don’t know the exact cost, you can imagine the bill he will be left with. After his medical cost, we are expecting any sorts of therapies that range from speech to physical therapy.
We are asking for your support during this time, prayers, and a small donation if possible. However much funds is raised, will all go directly to Danny’s mother Stacey, as she will help cover these costs for her son and the family during this difficult time. Any donation would be greatly appreciated and welcomed, or even just a simple share of this page, to help reach other loved ones who may be able to help during this difficult time.
Please keep your strength and spirits up for Danny and their family at this time, and we will provide you all with updates once we know more to come.
Thank you.
Update: April 26th
Danny has been making extremly great progress on his journey! He has been working with speech therapy and physical therapy everyday since he got transferred out of the ICU about almost 4 days of being in there. He was taken off his breathing tube, and is able to talk and working on his physical health and strengthening his body each day! He has a feeding tube until he is at 100% to eat and drink. He has been getting tested on his swallowing, and he is so close to being able to cross that finish line and not need his tube. More to come on that. He is now on the seventh floor and strictly working on regaining his strength in his body. It was been a very hard, long journey but Danny is showing off just how strong and resilient he is. I have created a Caring Bridge site that I post updates when I can, if you would like to see those please check out this link and get updated on his progress! Thank you to everyone who has made a charitable donation and given so much love, and support to the family throughout all of this.
