Hi! My name is Dani and I’m asking for your help. I’ve been living with a debilitating ankle injury for the last 4 years, and finally getting surgery on February 26. I have lost blood flow to the bone, which caused cartilage damage and bone shards in my ankle joint. My fantastic surgeon will hopefully be able to reverse some of the damage. I also strained my Achilles tendon on the same foot, so I am in a medical boot until surgery. At this point, it is painful to continue daily tasks.
I will be out of work for 3 weeks after surgery, and non-weight bearing for a total of 10 weeks. I will not be able to get around by myself during this time because the surgery is on the foot I use to drive. Full recovery will take about 4-5 months.
I’m asking for your support on the following expenses:
- $1,800 for 3 weeks of lost wages.
- $1,200 estimated surgery cost and related medical bills.
- $1,000 medical appliances not covered by insurance (including $384 for a knee scooter), cost of making my living space accessible, and cost of alternative transportation.
As I reflect, I feel so much gratitude for my ankle. It has walked with me through some truly wonderful experiences. I lived in New York and finished my MFA, lived in Chicago and worked in public art, moved back to California and started my dream job, and I also traveled more than I ever have before! But I am so ready to begin this road to recovery so I can live pain-free and love life again.
I deeply appreciate any financial or emotional assistance you can provide. Your support means the world to me. I’d also love any visitors or meal delivery while I’m laid up! Reach out to me personally if you’d like to work something out.
Thank you! :)
Dani
