About the Fundraiser
This is Lynsey. Dani and I met and became instant friends in San Francisco, probably helped by the fact that we both grew up in North West England. In fact, we overlapped for several years and went to many of the same places in Manchester. How we failed to meet until moving across the world, I have no idea!
What I want, more than anything, is for Dani to be her true self and to embody the radiant feminine energy she possesses. It’s been amazing to witness her blossom over the past 12 months, and I dearly want her to be the person she wishes to see in the mirror 24/7.
Since it’s her birthday celebration coming up, I started this fundraiser to help her access the surgery she needs to become the best version of herself. She deserves it. Helping her achieve this dream would be the best gift imaginable, and something she will carry with her every day, for the rest of her life.
I love her so much, and I know you do too. Let’s make this happen!
If you’re not able to contribute monetarily but have other means, for example hotel, Airbnb, or credit card points she could potentially use for post-surgery recovery accommodation, then please reach out. All support offered will be gratefully received.
About Dani
Dani (she/her) is a British trans woman, and adopted Californian, living in San Francisco since 2012. Ever the polymath, she is a partnerships pro, event producer, performer, model, and community organizer. She is a proud Mancunienne and a loyal daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and chosen family member.
In 2023, Dani founded the SF chapter of the community nonprofit Out Professionals (OutPro). Since its formation, she has produced and hosted over 30 networking and cultural events for over 2000 attendees from the LGBTQ+ community, plus their friends, partners, allies, and coworkers. This role has enabled Dani to discover her style and voice as an authentic, queer leader. In three years, she has grown OutPro into the leading LGBTQ+ professional organization in the Bay Area.
Spurred on by her friends and community, Dani embarked on her transition journey in 2024. It’s now time to take the challenging final steps to ensure her outside appearance matches with how she feels inside.
Your love and support means everything to honoring Dani and enabling her to step into her true self.
Why It's Needed
The fundraiser will provide Dani with the financial support necessary to access the surgical procedures representing the final steps in her physical transition.
This includes: insurance copays for surgery, travel and accommodation expenses, and loss of income during recovery.
Depending on funding and availability, her aim is to have the first of multiple rounds of surgery in Q3 or Q4, 2026.
Why It's Important
Attacks on transgender health care in the United States have accelerated significantly, moving from state-level legislative bans to federal executive actions aimed at restricting or eliminating access to gender-affirming care (GAC). These actions have resulted in a "chilling effect" on healthcare, with many providers pausing services due to fear of legal, financial, and professional penalties.
While initial legislation focused on minors, many states are now proposing or passing bans that extend to transgender adults, particularly those using public insurance or receiving care in state-funded institutions.
The restrictions have forced many to travel out of state or, in some cases, move to "sanctuary" states, incurring significant financial and emotional burdens. The inability to access care has been linked to increased anxiety, depression, and higher risks of suicide.
The attacks are often supported by efforts to disregard established, evidence-based care guidelines from major medical associations. Federal actions have launched investigations and subpoenas against hospitals and doctors, adding to the pressure on the medical community.
