My name is Danielle Hicks, and I am in my 23rd year of teaching. I teach Principles of Agriculture, a high school credit course, to 8th graders at Caldwell Junior High. I am also one of the Caldwell FFA advisors. I have the opportunity to travel to Puerto Rico this summer to experience the vibrant culture and unique agricultural landscape of this island. This program I am hoping to join is designed specifically for AGRICULTURE TEACHERS. I have the opportunity to engage with tropical agricultural production, trade/policy, Puerto Rican agricultural education and local ecosystems through hands-on experiences and expert collaboration. The journey includes visits to local schools, USDA facilities, and Puerto Rico's Land Grant University, providing invaluable connections with farmers, industry professionals and teachers. Highlights of the program feature kayaking in a bioluminescent bay, hiking in the stunning El Yunque National Rainforest, and daily excursions around the island, interacting with local experts. This professional development opportunity will celebrate Puerto Rico’s rich cultural heritage, equip me with the knowledge and tools to inspire my students, and promote agricultural education in my own communities. Please help support this agriculture professional development excursion and allow me to bring back knowledge to my students in the classroom. Puerto Rico Ag Video
