My sister (Allison Gustin) and I (Madison Gustin) wanted to make a GoFundMe to support us and our mom during this extremely tough time.

On September 22, 2025, my mom (Danielle Dougherty) was assaulted outside of her apartment. She had a doctor’s appointment that morning (she’s had 3 strokes in the last 4 years and needed to go to outpatient therapy), so she went to the dollar store *which is only a few doors away from her apartment* to get something to eat/drink. As she was walking back, a man that was seen walking towards her pulled out a wrench from his pocket and hit my mom on the head, causing her to fall onto the ground. Less than an hour before this, he murdered a man in a wheelchair with what we believe is the same wrench. Although we are so lucky our mom is still with us, my sister and I are facing a lot of unfortunate, serious conversations with doctors, as she is still unconscious after undergoing brain surgery, where they had to remove a piece of her skull to relieve the pressure from the swelling of her brain. We are unsure how she will wake up; if she’ll be able to talk, walk, move around, etc., everything is unknown until she wakes up, and she has not shown many responsive signs as of yet. What we do know is that she will need 24/7 care for quite a while, which me and my sister plan on doing.

We wanted to create this to help with medical bills that may not be covered, rehabilitation, therapy, and for her living situation when she is able to come home with us. I set the goal for $10,000, not because we need that much (we really don’t know how much we’ll need), but so that we could raise as much as we possibly can to help our mom on this healing journey.
