Support Daniel Green & family as he battles Guillain-Barré

Daniel is currently in Neuro/Med ICU at Strong Memorial in Rochester and has been here since Saturday night, April 26th. Two days before he noticed a numbing/ tingling in his fingers and heels that quickly spread to his lips, face, throat, tongue, arms, legs, etc over the next 48 hours. A trip to the ER Friday told him he didn’t have flu, covid, or Lyme disease and sent him home. By Saturday he couldn't get out of bed and could barely walk. Melissa took him back to Geneva and from there he was sent to Strong Memorial in Rochester.

Once here he was intubated so his airway would be protected and he could be still for the entire 3 hour MRI they ordered. They were worried about a leason or mass on his brain or spine. Mercifully this came back clear. They did a spinal tap the following day and found protein in the fluid. He has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, most likely the Miller's Hunter variant.

GBS is when antibodies that are supposed to attack diseases and infection in the body (like a certain stomach bug the family had the week before), become very confused and attack the nervous system instead. This led to almost total body paralysis. An 18 hour long stomach virus caused him to go from cheering at a track meet on Thursday April 24th to intubated in the ICU less than 48 hours later.

Heis currently being treated using Plex which is basically were they take out his blood, separate the plasma, throw away the plasma and give him something to make new plasma. This means he is currently a long haul resident of the 8th floor for a least 10-14 days, followed by acute inpatient rehab and then PT, OT and Speech Therapy for months . This disease can take up to a year to resolve. Daniel is currently physically incapacitated but mentally 100% aware of everything going on around him.

Right now Melissa is limiting guests as he doesn't want people to see him like this. Her mom and dad are our rocks and keeping the kids.

We are raising money during this extremely difficult time for the Green family to help with medical expenses and seeing Daniel, Melissa and their kids through this.

Thank you!!!
