Update #4

I had an appointment with the infectious disease doctor this afternoon and didn’t get the news I was looking forward to. I will no longer have my surgery on the 8th of October. My culture finally grew something and last Thursday I got the results. It grew something called scant propionibacterium acnes. It is a bacteria that is very hard to treat and takes a while for it to go away completely. The doctor told me i was a scientific experiment with this because we don’t know what originally caused it and also they have never seen it in a knee joint before. It’s something that normally affects the shoulder where someone has had the shoulder redone. I have multiple doctors looking at my case because it’s a very unusual one. I have to be on antibiotics for 3 months daily and then they will reevaluate me to see what the next steps are. I have a follow up with them in 3 weeks to know what we will do going further but unfortunately I’m looking at surgery the beginning of the year to finish my knee replacement. For the next 3 months I will still have my temporary cement until I can get my surgery. They refuse to do surgery until they know the bacteria is out completely otherwise it’s going to attack the titanium joint once they put it back in and I will be back at square one. I will definitely be out longer than the expected at 6 months with no income or financial help at all.

Update #3

I had my follow up this morning with my orthopedic doctor from surgery. My stitches have been taken out and will have an appointment tomorrow morning with a dermatologist about a rash on my leg and took bloodwork to check my white blood cell count. Depending on what my bloodwork says I will have another surgery on October 8 to hopefully finish my knee replacement and start the road to recovery.

Update #2

I had my first antibiotic infusion last Monday September 9th. This Monday September 16th I had my second antibiotic infusion and all together with both infusions covered 6 weeks worth of antibiotics. I’m still on oral antibiotics for 2 months as well. Will update again come Wednesday after my follow up

Update #1

I have my first follow up appointment next Wednesday September 18 from my surgeries. I’m still unable to receive any assistance and still can’t get any type of insurance. I’ve tried to apply for short term disability but they say I won’t qualify until I have been out of work 1 year and then they will back pay me. I have also tried to apply for Medicaid and have been denied of that also because I don’t have a child under the age of 18 living with me. I’m still trying to work on getting food stamps so I can at least get a little bit of groceries. This is gonna be a long road of recovery ahead of me but I know everything will be alright once I’m at the end and can return back to work. I really do appreciate everyone that has reached out to me to check and see how I’m feeling and for everyone that has taken a minute of their time to pray for me and a huge thank you to everyone that has donated. I will give another update after my doctor’s appointment Wednesday so everyone will know what he says and what our next plan is.

Hello, my name is Danica. I am here trying to raise money to pay my monthly bills and to get groceries for my home. I had a medical emergency on Sunday, August 24, and have been hospitalized since. I had a knee replacement done 5 years ago, and it has gone septic. I have had 2 surgeries to get the infection out and to redo my knee replacement once again, but may have to have more surgeries in the near future. I will be out of work for at least 6 months and have absolutely no income coming in until I am healed enough to return to work. I live alone and have no way to pay my monthly bills or even know how I’m gonna buy food. Just my monthly bills are $1,400 without anything additional. If you have it in the kindness of your heart to donate, any little amount helps me out, but if not, can you please just pray for me? I can't thank anyone enough.
