Support Danette's Fight Against Cancer
Donation protected
My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer this past October 2024. For those of you who know my mom, Danette, you know that she is the most giving human being. She underwent surgery at the end of November 2024 to remove the cancer. A bilateral mastectomy was performed, and with a further look, cancerous cells were detected in her lymph nodes, and part of her muscle had to be removed. Once the pathology results are in, she'll need to undergo radiation and chemotherapy. My mom will need to have three surgeries for reconstruction once she gets to that point.
Because of this, Danette has been unable to work. The state provides family medical leave and will help with eleven weeks of financial support. This is a percentage of her wages. Unfortunately, this will cover a minimal amount of her medical expenses. With the everyday necessities of life, money is getting tighter and tighter. After the eleven weeks of family medical leave that our state provides, Danette will no longer have an income. My mom has been with her current employer for only four months, so FMLA is not available to her.
My mom is one of the strongest, most selfless people I have ever known. Danette worked as a Merchant Marine on ships delivering goods during the Gulf War. She has worked in healthcare as a patient advocate. She has helped patients during the pandemic, delivering oxygen to hospitals day or night, and helping patients to obtain non-invasive ventilation therapy during the pandemic. She would visit patients in the hospital to find out what their needs are by sitting by their side. Danette would help patients and loved ones understand the next step and each step to recovery. She helps patients with chronic and rare diseases navigate with the doctor to obtain their therapy to have a better quality of life with better outcomes. Danette is always there to give her love and support or the shirt off her back to anyone that needs it. Every day she helps others.
Now, it's time that we send back some of that love and support to Danette, now a patient. Anything you can donate will be truly appreciated. Please spread the word. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
