Support Dane's Stroke Recovery Journey
Donation protected
Life changed in an instant for Dane and his family when he suffered a catastrophic stroke. At just 38 years old, he faced an unimaginable battle—hospitalized for nearly a month before being transferred to a rehab center for three more weeks. Now home, he continues to fight every day to regain his independence, but the journey is far from over.
The effects of the stroke have been devastating. Dane has been left with aphasia, which affects his ability to understand and express language—he cannot speak and struggles to communicate his needs, which has been incredibly frustrating for him. He also suffers from hemiplegia, leaving his entire right side paralyzed, making even the simplest tasks impossible without assistance. On top of that, he faces ongoing medical challenges, including acute deep vein thrombosis, hypertension, complications due to diabetes, and a left carotid artery dissection, all of which make his recovery even more complex and urgent. Additionally, Dane underwent partial skull removal, and he will need a future surgery to replace the missing portion, which will delay his recovery even further.
He requires around-the-clock care, and while his family is doing everything they can to support him, the financial burden is overwhelming. Insurance only covers a minimal amount of therapy—just one hour per week for each: physical, occupational, and speech therapy. This is far from enough for meaningful recovery, and Dane desperately needs more intensive therapy to make real progress.
Dane and his family are more than just friends to us—they are our second family. They have always been there for others, offering kindness, generosity, and support whenever someone was in need. Now, it's our turn to rally around them in their time of hardship.
We are raising funds to help with:
Medical & Rehabilitation Expenses
- Additional Therapy (PT, OT, ST) – Insurance covers one hour per week for each and he needs more to make real progress.
- Specialized Rehabilitation Programs – Intensive rehab programs and neurological specialists can help retrain his body and mind.
- Medical Equipment & Assistive Devices – Wheelchairs, adaptive communication devices, braces, mobility aids, and other critical tools that insurance may not cover.
- Medical Supplies – Adaptive clothing, therapy tools, and other necessities for daily care.
Health & Well-Being Support
- Diabetic Meal Kits & Specialized Nutrition – Carefully managed meals are essential to Dane’s health and recovery.
- Massage Therapy & Acupuncture – To help with circulation, pain relief, and muscle recovery.
- Transportation for Medical Appointments – Getting to and from specialists, therapy sessions, and doctor visits.
- Home Modifications – Ramps, stair lifts, bathroom modifications, and accessible furniture to make daily living easier.
- Caregiver & Respite Support – His family is devoted to his care, but they need help. Additional caregiving services will allow them to take breaks, rest, and recharge while ensuring Dane is never alone.
Quality of Life & Communication Support
- Speech & Communication Assistance – Because he cannot speak, specialized devices, apps, and therapy tools are needed to help him communicate.
- Recreational & Social Activities – Specialized classes, adaptive sports, or outings to help him stay engaged and motivated.
Dane's family has given so much to others in times of need, and now they need us. They are doing everything possible to provide the best care, but they cannot do it alone. Your support—whether through a donation or by sharing this fundraiser—can make a world of difference in Dane’s recovery. Every contribution, big or small, helps give him the best possible chance at healing and regaining independence.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any support you can provide.
