My name is Lindsey Buckley. I am a New York State resident residing in the Hudson Valley. I am raising funds to support my friend and teacher Damon. He's receiving surgery on February 8, 2023 to have a part of his digestive system removed. He has been suffering from Chron's disease for over 2 decades. Damon’s doctors say he will need support with preparing his meals, bathing, and fetching ingredients post surgery. He won’t be able to lift any extra weight. The surgeon is unsure until during surgery to decide how much of Damon’s colon will be removed and will likely sew on a bag that comes out at the side of his stomach that will temporarily function as his colon. It can take up to 4 months to heal from this surgery, at which point Damon will have to undergo a second surgery to remove the bag. We hope for these funds to go towards paying rent so his mother can come stay with him and support his healing. As well as food and any other post surgery care that he may need. Thank you for pouring water in a time of need onto an important Teacher of our time. Damon is a food sovereignty educator, anti-racist educator, cannabis advocate and musician. It's our goal at Indigenous Collective (www.IC.indigenouscollective.com) to support him back to health so that he can continue his work with children and communities. Damon has offered an abudance of important work to our New York community in the past 15 years. Let's work collectively to support a BIPOC friend in need.
