My name is Damion Whyte, and I’m reaching out for help during one of the most important moments in my life. I was born in Jamaica, but the United States has been my home for years. I currently hold a green card, but my greatest wish is to take the final step and become a U.S. citizen.
The process to apply for citizenship is expensive, and right now, I simply can’t cover all the costs on my own. The application, legal fees, and associated expenses add up to more than I can manage without support — about $2,000 in total.
Why This Matters
Having my citizenship means more than just a piece of paper. It means security. It means not living with the constant fear that my life here could be taken away by a change in circumstance or policy. Even with a green card, there’s still uncertainty — and the thought of being forced to leave my home, friends, and community is something I think about more than I’d like to admit.
Becoming a citizen would allow me to fully participate in my community without fear, vote in elections, and finally feel the deep peace of knowing I belong here permanently.
