Support Damion and Kayla's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Hi everyone! My name is Michelle Littlejohn, and our family has created this GoFundMe to help raise funds for our niece and nephew, who were recently in a bad car accident.

What Happened:

On December 3rd, at approximately 5:39 PM, Damion and Kayla Daniels were driving down Warner Hill on their way to work.

It was Damion’s Birthday.

While driving down the hill, a drunk driver was reported heading up the hill toward them. The driver, heavily intoxicated, veered across the median at a staggering 60 miles per hour and crashed head-on into Damion’s car, totaling it. With the last of Kayla's strength, she instructed Siri to call their mother, Nichelle (Nikki), to inform her about the accident. She screamed into the phone, trying to encourage her brother to stay alive.

Nikki and her husband, Dame, arrived at the scene with the ambulance. As they approached the car, Nikki noticed Kayla lying on the ground. She asked a man who was leaving the scene if he could tell her whether her children were alive or dead. Thankfully, he confirmed that both of them were alive.

Damion was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be rescued. Both were taken to the hospital and underwent immediate surgery.

They are both within the trauma unit recovering and will require 12 weeks or longer of rehab and assisted care.

- The drunk driver walked away with minor injuries and has been detained by the police.

Damion and Kayla’s Injuries:

Kayla has suffered a shattered hip socket, dislocated hip, broken pelvis, and bruised shoulder. She has endured a blood transfusion and much pain.

Damion has suffered fractures to both of his femurs (thigh bones). He also had a leaking valve that required a stent implant. This procedure necessitated two heart surgeries to repair his aorta.

Damion sustained multiple injuries: a broken arm and a broken shoulder. He was on a ventilator for over 20 hours. Although more surgeries are necessary, the surgeons will need his body to rest before proceeding. This may require them to rebreak his arm to ensure it is properly repaired.

What is Needed:

1) Nearly dodging death, both Damion and Kayla will both require 12 weeks or longer of rehab and assisted care.

2) Damion will also need frequent follow-ups to cardiology for his now lifelong heart condition.

3) Medical insurance will not cover the cost of a wheelchair ramp rental and nursing care once Nikki returns to work.

4) We are asking for financial assistance to cover the medical costs.
Their home will need to be arranged to help them both further, for they can’t walk at this time. One of the rooms in the house can be transitioned into a bedroom for them to share on the main floor.
I would also appreciate transportation costs to appointments.

Your financial contribution can make a meaningful difference. Every penny will support their healing and future well-being.

Thank you!

-We will also share updates here on this page as they come in.

Updates: Kayla is being discharged for rehab either 12/09 or 12/10... Thank you to everyone for your support and prayers!
