This is Dallas. He is a super social child who makes friends everywhere he goes. He loves his friends, family, music, video games, building with wood, and swimming. On March 26th, 2025, his life changed dramatically when he incurred a traumatic brain injury. An arrow from a crossbow passed through his head. He was flown to UPMC Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh. Upon arrival, the neurosurgeon and team removed the arrow and part of Dallas's skull. They did all they could to save his life, but the doctors broke the news to Dallas's mom that his injury was severe and they feared he would not be with us long. The next morning, the neurosurgical team was surprised to find that Dallas had made it through the night. Because Dallas had fought so hard to stay with us, the medical team began aggressively treating Dallas's injury, giving him the best possible chance of recovery.
Dallas had several procedures during his stay in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. He was monitored closely with frequent CT scans. He was given a tracheotomy, a g-tube for receiving liquid feed directly into his stomach, and a shunt to manage excess pressure on his brain. He continued to fight on and within weeks was moved to rehab. He successfully worked his rehab program, seeing him off of the ventilator, removal of the tracheotomy, eating a regular diet once again, and that skull flap replaced. After 4 and a half months at Children's Hospital, Dallas was discharged home on August 6th.
With the many successes God has blessed Dallas and his family there is still a long road ahead. The benefits we wish to offer with this fundraising effort are a wheelchair van to provide transportation to Physical Therapy and Doctors appointments and to provide for his daily needs.
