Theresa here, Dale Gallagher’s sister. My sister Dale and husband John Castle are facing one of the biggest challenges I have ever heard of. On May 12 2025 John was a working, driving, grocery shopping, cooking, dog walking, self sufficient man. That all changed the next day when a surgical procedure and the anesthesia administered to him literally started an avalanche of cognitive decline. Overnight my sister lost her husband to Alzheimers. A few days later he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer as well. The cognitive decline alone would be devastating but adding to it the cancer diagnosis is and was catastrophic. The hard facts of Alzheimers is your person with rapid cognitive decline can not be left alone for a second. Can anyone actually imagine that?

Due to John’s adverse reaction to anesthesia he is not a surgical candidate. Adding to his treatment difficulty; he can’t tolerate radiation therapy or chemo therapy.

An Alzheimer’s patient cannot be left alone at all. Consequently, Dale has taken a leave from her job.

She needs at home medical support in her care for John like yesterday.

Financially, the combination of loosing John’s income and the cost of home care is unsustainable.

Although Medicaid applications have been made; those benefits won’t be realized until December. The purpose of this go fund me request is to help Dale with the cost of care for John in this extremely great time of need.
