Our family is facing a heartbreaking time. Our sister-in-law, Betty, has entered Hospice care, and our brother Dale is overwhelmed emotionally and financially as he supports her through these final days.
Betty has fought bravely for over a year against severe heart failure. She has undergone repeated procedures to drain fluid from her lungs, relied on dialysis, and taken many medications—including one that costs over $1,000 per month out of pocket. At just 90 pounds, she is exhausted, and she knows that when she comes home with Hospice today, dialysis and lung treatments will no longer continue. She is tired and ready to let go.
Throughout all of this, Dale has carried a heavy burden. He has traveled countless times back and forth to Duluth, MN—an 80-mile trip each way—for Betty’s care. Costs for gas, meals, and parking have added up quickly. Because the local hospital could not provide the level of care Betty needed, she had to be transported to Duluth by ambulance multiple times. Sadly, those ambulance trips were not covered by Medicare and have left significant expenses behind.
My sisters Trudy, Nancy, Julie, and I (Carolyn) have created a GoFundMe to help relieve some of this financial strain so Dale has one less worry as he says goodbye to the love of his life. Any donation—large or small—or even a simple share, would mean more than words can say.
Please keep Betty and Dale in your prayers during this difficult time. Our family is deeply grateful for your love and support.
