Description: We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the first responders, the sheriff’s department, Trident Medical Center, and the bystanders who assisted our 16-year-old daughter, Dakota, who was the employee shot during the horrific incident that took place while she was working at the Publix in Cane Bay. That is a phone call no parent should ever have to receive. That tragic night changed her life, as well as the lives of our family members, forever, and we are now trying to navigate the healing process together.
Surgery to repair her broken leg, which was shattered in four places by the bullet, was successful. However, this senseless act of violence will leave emotional wounds that she will carry for the rest of her life. No 16-year-old should ever have to endure something like this. Dakota should be preparing for summer break and spending time with friends. Instead, she is focused on recovery and healing. Our thoughts and prayers are with the other victims, as well as everyone who witnessed this tragic event.
All funds donated will go towards Dakota’s wellbeing as she recovers from this tragic incident, including medical expenses, therapy, and any support she needs during her healing process. Our family sincerely thanks everyone for the love, prayers, and support we have received, and we respectfully ask for privacy as we continue to maneuver through this incredibly difficult time. If you are able, please consider supporting Dakota’s recovery. Your kindness will help her and our family navigate this incredibly difficult time.
