Dear Family and Friends,
Last year, I was diagnosed with a 12 mm pineal cyst and Chiari Malformation, two neurological conditions that have significantly impacted my daily life. While there is currently no cure for these conditions, my neurosurgeon has recommended brain surgery to treat my Chiari Malformation, improve my quality of life, and help prevent my neurological symptoms from continuing to worsen.
My surgery is scheduled for July 27th.
This surgery is intended to relieve pressure at the base of my brain and restore the normal flow of cerebrospinal fluid, giving me the best chance to reduce my symptoms, prevent further neurological decline, and regain a better quality of life.
Over the past year, I have faced challenges with memory loss, speech difficulties, confusion, chronic pain, impaired motor function, balance issues, vision changes, dizziness, and episodes where my hearing fades in and out. Some days I may have a few good hours, but every day involves pain and symptoms that affect my ability to live life normally. These neurological symptoms have impacted nearly every aspect of my daily life, from work to simple everyday activities such as taking a shower.
Without treatment, there is a risk that my condition could continue to worsen and lead to more serious neurological complications in the future. After careful consideration and consultation with my medical team, we have decided that surgery offers the best opportunity to improve my quality of life and preserve my ability to remain active and independent.
As we begin our first year of marriage, we're facing an unexpected challenge as we prepare for surgery and recovery. Although we have insurance, there are still significant out-of-pocket expenses for my surgery, hospital stay, specialist appointments, medications, recovery supplies, and ongoing medical bills that continue to add up.
In addition to these medical costs, I will be unable to work while I heal, and my husband will also need to take time away from work to care for me during the first part of my recovery. While our income will be reduced, our rent, utilities, insurance, groceries, and everyday bills will continue as normal. We are asking for help so we can focus on my recovery without the overwhelming financial stress of balancing mounting medical expenses and lost wages at the same time.
Asking for help is not easy, but we know we cannot walk this road alone. If you feel led to donate, no matter the amount, we would be incredibly grateful. Every contribution will help ease the financial burden and allow us to focus on healing and recovery.
If you are unable to give financially, we completely understand and would be deeply grateful for your prayers. We believe God has His hand on this journey and will guide the surgeons, nurses, and everyone involved in my care. We trust that He will carry us through the challenges ahead and use this testimony for His glory.
Thank you for your love, support, prayers, and generosity. We are humbled by every person who chooses to stand with us during this season. Your kindness means more than words can express, and we are forever grateful to everyone who becomes part of this journey with us.
With love and gratitude,
Dakota & Bailey Hayes
