On June 23rd, my friend Daizee was leaving for work when they lost their balance and fell, shattering the head of their radius and fracturing the process of their ulna (in other words, they broke two of the three bones of the elbow joint). To complicate things further, the radius is twisted out of place, and the shattered pieces of bone are digging into their nerves. Ouch! They are not ok.
On July 11th, they will be having surgery for prosthetic placement and joint reconstruction and hopefully the successful reattachment of their ligaments and tendons. The future range of motion and function of their elbow is still unknown. They feel pretty helpless right now and during the initial period of their recovery, they will be completely reliant on the care of others. The full rehabilitation process is going to take three or four months. They can’t work. They can’t drive. They can’t dress themselves (except for a muumuu).
They're trying to stay positive, but things are feeling pretty bleak. If you know them personally, then you know they had multiple tragedies that were out of their control last year too. They need some kindness, please. A lot of it.
If you can help with funds towards rent while they can’t work, it would be so appreciated. This campaign is to keep them and their children housed.
If you’re a CO local (or don’t mind traveling) and can spend any time helping them and the children, please contact Daizee or myself. They need help starting July 14th, as I have the wonderful Kathleen Livsey coming the first couple of days.
