In August 2025, Daisy was suddenly paralyzed from the waist down. She couldn't get out of bed. She couldn't get to the bathroom. It was time to call 911.
Daisy was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), a rare and incurable condition in which the body's immune system attacks the nerves. It is a dangerous condition because the paralysis spreads throughout the body and can reduce the functioning of the lungs and heart, affecting breathing and causing blood clots. And then there is the pain: the pain is acute and can last for months, even after successful treatment. And in Daisy's case, GBS appeared randomly. Her doctors say there is no explanation as to how she got this.
Daisy has been hospitalized for more than a week at this point, as we - her family - create this page and humbly ask for help.
Treatment for GBS is extremely expensive, due to the need for specialized medical care, lengthy hospital stays, the use of expensive treatments to stop the progression of the paralysis, and ongoing physical therapy - with the hope of someday being able to walk again. According to the National Institutes of Health, up to 80% of people with GBS will be able to walk independently at 6 months.
Daisy is only 26 years old and has committed herself to helping others who are struggling. She is the Volunteer Services Manager at Teen Feed, a nonprofit that works to meet the basic needs of homeless youth and support them in finding a future off the streets. But like many staff at small nonprofits, Daisy does not have health insurance.
To date, she has had 5 IVIg (Intravenous Immunoglobulin) treatments, which cost around $15K each. When she is ready, Daisy will be moved to an in-patient physical therapy facility, where she will stay for the foreseeable future. She is unable to walk, unable to work, and is unsure how she will pay rent, let alone the mountain of existing and future medical bills. The road ahead is long. Daisy needs our help.
We really appreciate your love, generosity, and support. And please help us spread the word.
