Hi everyone.
Thank you for taking the time to read Daisy’s story. Daisy is a Welsh Harlequin Duck who is 5 months old, she lives with her 2 sisters, Dandelion who is another welshy, and our Pekin Dixie who are also both 5 months old. We are first time duck parents with these 3!
Last Tuesday, we noticed Daisy holding her head a little higher than usual. We didn’t think much of it at that time since she was otherwise acting totally fine. Thursday rolls around and we decided to put her in the tub to let her swim around and clean her nose out, thinking maybe something was lodged in it causing her to to feel discomfort. Suddenly, she began flailing around under water unable to control herself. We pulled her out to witness what we thought was a seizure. She stopped, regained herself and from then on, experienced these episodes consistently for several days. We dosed her up on vitamins, extra niacin, ect to no avail. I called all the vets in our area, and only one accepted Ducks, but couldn’t get any appointment. Saturday she rapidly declined she became lethargic, wouldn’t eat, drink or move without flailing. It was devastating to watch.
We were up every 1-2 hours helping her control her neck.
Monday came and luckily we were able to be seen by the only avian vet in our area. Unfortunately due to bird flu, they didn’t allow us in the room or even the lobby. The doctor called us with basically no news. “I don’t know what’s going on, we need to do all these tests”. We knew we were not ready to give up on our Daisy. We went ahead and did radiology tests which were all clear, and toxicology tests which we are waiting for. She’s currently on antibiotics and extra vitamins and pain killers. As I’m writing this, it’s Wednesday. 5/21. Still no answers. Daisy is up and down. Better some days, then suddenly declines.
The first vet bill was $1800 with no diagnosis.
We are not ready to give up on our sweet girl. She has an imprint on our hearts. Any money raised will go towards vet bills and medical care for our sweet girl.
if you made it this far, thank you SO much for reading.
