Hello!
(TLDR at the end)
For those who don't know, we're Daejah and Uzo. We're a Black queer couple that has been slow traveling, volunteering, house sitting, and working around the world for 2 years. Now, we're hoping for your help to have a stable home again as Daejah accepts a sponsored work position in Costa Rica!
We started this journey at the end of 2023 when the cost-of-living crisis in Scotland became unbearable. Uzo (Irish) and I (American) both knew that the economic and housing crises in our respective countries wouldn't give us more peace, fewer work-related injuries, or any chance to heal from burnout. The journey has taken us to Thailand, Cambodia, Colombia, Mexico, and the United States. We've done such a variety of things, from farm work to furniture building to remote work. We've learned, we've grown, and we've overcome, but bro we're tired!
It's time to stay still and assess the life we've been working toward. I've earned a role as an English teacher in San Jose, Costa Rica, and I'm so excited to step into it. Uzo will also continue remote work while writing and making use of Costa Rica's many educational resources for people who aspire to a homestead or off-grid lifestyle. For a long time, we kept saying "Costa Rica 2026" and now it can be a reality!
I just got the job offer last week, and I need to be in Costa Rica by the first week of February, so the turnaround time is fast. At the same time, new year plane tickets can be costly, and paychecks are a bit smaller because of the dreaded unpaid-but-built-in holiday time.
Can you help us with the final move?
We're raising money for:
- Tickets to the US - $1500 (No direct flights from Cambodia, need to get documents for work visa)
- Tickets to Costa Rica - $250
- Support with moving costs - $1000 (ex., temporary apartment)
TL; DR:
- Daejah and Uzo have been slow traveling, volunteering, working, learning, and house/pet sitting for 2 years
- Now Daejah has accepted a job in Costa Rica with visa sponsorship, and we're preparing to make our final move
- The quick start date for the job means getting all the way from Cambodia to Costa Rica by February 4
- We're continuing to work while we do this, but the costs of new year flights are high, and we're obviously very far away, so we're also looking for support in our final move
