My dad, Rich Mires, has spent his entire life serving others. He served 7 years in the U.S. Navy, then spent his next 10 years working with the homeless at Haven For Hope. My dad has dedicated himself to protecting his country, helping the homeless, and currently supporting his fellow veterans as the maintenance manager at K9S For Warriors. His role is to keep the campus running smoothly and to get to know the graduates by always offering a friendly face and support to those who have served. Now, he is the one who needs our help.
Last week, my dad had an unexpected and intensive quadruple bypass open-heart surgery. After the initial shock, a feeling of immense gratitude was foremost. The procedure was a success, and his road to recovery is long. He will be out of work for several months as he heals and regains his strength. This sudden medical crisis has brought a lot of uncertainty and worry to our family, but we are beyond grateful for the skilled doctors and the support of our loved ones.
As many of you know, the world doesn't stop turning when a medical crisis hits. He's worried about his mortgage payment. With Dad unable to work, the weight of medical bills and daily living expenses is a burden I want to lift from his shoulders so he can focus entirely on his rehabilitation. I'm a Freshman at UT-Austin, thus not able to help as much as I wish I could, so I am reaching out to my community, friends, and family to ask for your help. Your generosity will help cover monthly bills and utilities during his recovery, medical expenses not covered by insurance, groceries, and essential care needs. Every bit of help will allow my Dad to focus on healing without the added stress of financial worries.
No contribution is too small. If you are unable to donate at this time, please consider sharing this page with your network. Your prayers, well-wishes, and support mean the world to our family. Thank you for helping me take care of my dad... a man who has given so much to so many.
