Our family is facing an unexpected and overwhelming situation, and we’re asking for help.

On Sunday morning, dad suffered a massive heart attack and was rushed by air to Sanford in Sioux Falls. Shortly after, he went into cardiogenic shock, a life-threatening condition where the heart can no longer pump enough blood to the body. On Monday, he was flown again to the University of Minnesota, where he is now receiving specialized critical care.

He remains in the ICU in critical condition and is currently on ECMO, a machine that is supporting his heart and circulation, along with a ventilator to help him breathe and continuous dialysis to support his kidneys.

Despite how serious this is, he has shown incredible strength. His condition is slowly improving—his heart is starting to work more on its own, his oxygen needs are coming down, and he has begun to wake up, opening his eyes and even moving his toes. These are small but powerful signs that he is fighting hard.

His recovery will be long and uncertain. He still requires intensive, around-the-clock care and will have a long road ahead, including rehabilitation once he is stable.

The financial burden of this kind is significant. Between the ICU stay, life-saving support like ECMO, multiple air transports, ongoing treatments, and the recovery process, the costs are overwhelming.

We are asking for support to help ease that burden so we can focus on being by his side and supporting his recovery.
