On Friday afternoon, my dad and stepmom experienced an unexpected disaster when their home burned down due to an electrical malfunction. In just a few hours, they lost everything: their belongings, their memories, their sense of security, and the place they’ve called home for so many years.

What makes this even more heartbreaking is that they didn’t have homeowners insurance. It simply wasn’t something they could afford in their budget, so now they are starting from nothing with no financial safety net to help them rebuild.

If you know them, you know they are the kind of people who show up for everyone else. They’re always volunteering, giving, and supporting the community—helping at the kids’ fishing derby, assisting with wild game feeds, and pitching in at countless local events and functions. They never hesitate to lend a hand, whether it’s for a neighbor, a friend, or someone they just met.

Now they’re the ones who need help.
