Hello friends and family. My name is Cylis, and this is the story of the day I almost lost my right foot to a boat propeller.
The date was January 25th, 2026, at 4:43 PM.
It was exactly one week into moving back to St. Augustine after leaving family in California, and I was out celebrating one of my best friend’s birthdays. A seamless day: dinner, drinks, and to close, a boat ride to catch the sunset.
This was until my foot was violently severed in three places by the propeller of the boat.
Instantly upon impact, I felt uneasy but not pain. It was as if I scratched myself, which I have since learned was the work of adrenaline. Thankfully, I was there with my trusted friends, and my care has been immediate and thorough.
11 weeks, 2 ambulance rides, 2 surgeries, 3 metal rods, and too many stitches later, I am well on the road to recovery, regaining little movements and feelings every day. I am optimistic towards possibly having two functional feet soon.
Now, looking back, I feel strongly that accidents happen, and the best thing to do is forgive myself and move on.
To my dismay, I am instructed by professionals to stay in bed for several more months as bones and nerves are healing, and I can use any help getting on my feet while transitioning.
I deeply appreciate everyone’s kind thoughts and prayers.
