Be Part of the Journey: Help Cynthia Graduate Med School

Hello, my name is Cynthia, and I am currently pursuing my dream of becoming a physician at Nova Southeastern University Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine. I am deeply passionate about healthcare, leadership, and service. My journey began in Nigeria and has taken me to the United States, where I am working to complete my medical education.

Medical school is a challenging yet rewarding path, but for students like me, it also comes with significant financial hurdles. As an international student, I face unique barriers to funding my education. Since I am ineligible for federal aid, my only option of securing a loan is through a private lender using a U.S. citizen cosigner—which is a hard requirement for private loans. My financial circumstances became particularly difficult following the passing of my aunt, my sole U.S.-based relative who would have been my cosigner, just months before my acceptance into medical school.

Despite these challenges, I’ve remained steadfast in my commitment to this goal. I am proud to have excelled in my studies so far, achieving a 3.96 GPA in my post-baccalaureate year, and I am actively pursuing opportunities such as an early clinical preceptorship in dermatology, my desired future specialty.

The cost of medical school, however, including tuition, living expenses, and required materials such as medical equipment to facilitate my learning, has proven overwhelming. I’ve worked tirelessly to explore every possible avenue for funding, including loans, scholarships, and part-time work, but the gap remains daunting.

So I’m reaching out to my community for help. Your support will go directly toward covering my tuition, necessary supplies, and living expenses, allowing me to focus entirely on my education and service goals for a while.
