My mother-in-law is Cynthia Pouncey, and she was born with a combination of two blood disorders: Sickle cell disease and Thalassemia. Around the 1st week of April this year, she was hospitalized for what we thought was another sickle cell crisis, only this crisis was different. This one included an altered mental status. She did not know her family, her name, where she was, not even what year it was.
During her stay at the hospital, an MRI revealed chronic brain hemorrhages, and an echo showed pulmonary hypertension and labs showed elevated calcium and alkaline phosphates, and all sickle cell counts being out of whack. Her doctor was finally able to conclude that along with a sickle cell crisis, she was also suffering from a disease called Hyperparathyroidism. This was contributing to the altered mental status. Almost three months later, she is still suffering from an altered mental status.
Because her doctor is unsure of when she will be able to return to work, she needs assistance to continue her health insurance. She currently still has ongoing specialty appointments as well as regular doctor's appointments and outpatient tests that require insurance, which she cannot afford to pay due to being out of work. We know she is blessed to still be here, but we need your help as a continued blessing to help keep her here. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
