Hello! My name is Cynthia Barner and I am a junior studying Business, Marketing at the University of Central Florida. I will be competing as contestant #5 in the Immortal Iota Rho chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated's upcoming Miss Phi Beta Sigma scholarship pageant. I am passionate about contesting in the pageant because I hope to make a difference on the recent literacy implementations affecting grade schools. In the state of Florida, books are being banned from the shelves of student libraries. Curriculums are being erased in the youth's classroom. Knowledge is power and it should be something no one can take away. Sadly, with every book and lecture banned that will slowly begin to happen.
