On Saturday, our cousin, Cydnie Ekey was enjoying Toledo’s Old West End Festival, a beloved community event, when an unexpected act of violence changed everything. In a moment, what should have been a joyful day turned into a nightmare as Cydnie suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound to her leg. The bullet hit her femoral artery, and she was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. Thanks to the quick actions of first responders and medical staff, Cydnie survived, but her journey to recovery is just beginning.

Cydnie now faces a long road ahead, including multiple medical treatments, physical therapy, and significant time away from work. The emotional and financial toll of this incident is overwhelming. Medical bills, rehabilitation costs, and everyday living expenses are quickly adding up, making it difficult for Cydnie to focus solely on healing. While we are incredibly thankful that she is still with us, the challenges she faces are daunting.
