Support Curt & Connie Sobel's New Beginning

So many people have asked how they can help so we put this together.

As most of you know, our parents' home just burned down. Our mom and dad, Connie and Curt, lived there for 34 years while raising us three boys (Tommy, Jay, and Brett).

But they didn't just raise us kids (and a plethora of pets) in this house; it felt like they raised an entire generation of Palisadians. With our house close to the parks and next to Pali High, you would always find kids playing in their yard and in their kitchen enjoying a Top Ramen or mac & cheese.

Their 4th of July parties were a well-known annual tradition, where hundreds of us gathered at their home’s perfect view to enjoy the Palisades fireworks and ice cream sundaes - marking the beginning of summer for pretty much every Palisadian. This was actually a big reason why they chose that home; they loved the idea of bringing everyone together to celebrate their own fun community tradition.

This home - filled with over three decades of memories, family photos, home movies, and countless personal treasures (along with the entire town surrounding it) was erased.

Our mom was on a plane home when the fire hit, so her carry-on suitcase now contains everything she owns. Our dad, the musician and music lover, managed to save his guitar, but little else. His lifelong, prized, wall-to-wall record collection is gone.

They have not had a chance to begin filing for disaster support, because they have done nothing but tirelessly help Tommy and his new wife, Cambria, evacuate their home due to the continued spread of the fire.

That’s the thing. Our parents have always cared more about others than themselves. They would drop everything to help friends in need, something that many families have probably experienced first-hand. They truly get their pleasure from acts of service and don’t like the thought of asking for help themselves.

They are overwhelmed with the kindness of the many people who have reached out and we are so grateful for your help as they begin the process of starting from scratch. This has helped their spirit remain strong.
Some ways you can help:
  • Specifically with all non-disaster-related expenses, aka the things that FEMA and their insurance won't cover
  • PHOTOS and VIDEOS you might have of their early years, and us with friends and family when we were young (playing sports, acting, Boy Scouts, school activities, etc.)
We are going to be fine. But our parents are getting closer to their retirement years and while their spirit remains strong, the exhausting physical and emotional demands of temporary housing, insurance claims, navigating disaster assistance, and the day-to-day strain of starting over...your support really helps

We love you. Thank you.

Tommy, Jay and Brett
