Hello guys!
I am, Crystal, and I am pursuing a Master’s degree in Social Entrepreneurship and Change at Pepperdine University, Graduate School of Education and Psychology. This program values the importance of cultural immersion and requires us to volunteer abroad at an organization of our choosing that connects to a social cause we care about. I have decided to go to Trujillo, Peru, this October 2024. There I will be visiting Vive Perú a nonprofit organization.
I would like to highlight the importance of this experience. This trip is not just about my education; it's about improving the lives of many. By supporting this campaign, you will be supporting the value of social business, social justice, and improving access to public health. Together, we can foster change that transcends beyond our borders.
Just a little bit about me!
I have always valued business ethics and advocated for social justice issues. This led me to pursue an undergraduate degree in Business and Economics and a Minor in Social Business from California State University of Channel Islands..
This master’s program is just another extension of my passion for wanting to help others and using business as leverage. I have been able to deepen my passion for advocating for others through public health and understanding its profound impact on a community’s health, wellness, and economic well-being. This passion has driven me to pursue the integration of business strategies with public health initiatives to create sustainable solutions that benefit communities in need.
Why Vive Perú?
Latin American culture has always piqued my interest. I found myself comparing and contrasting many countries and their medical care systems and was drawn to Perú. When it came time to research organizations, in Perú, I came across Vive Perú and was drawn to their mission and vision. I felt an attraction to them because they offer many services and programs that I focus on educating the youth.
Vive Perú is an outstanding organization committed to enhancing public health and sanitation, social work, clinical research, and engineering opportunities within their community. This is just a fraction of the good they contribute to their community. They have numerous program initiatives that support the local community by providing services to make their lives easier. They have chosen me to work with them on their public health and clinical research team.
If you would like to take a look at the organization and explore the other amazing work they do, please visit their website linked here .
What will I be doing with Vive Perú?
I will be working alongside two of their programs, fluctuating between both their public health and clinical research teams. My volunteer work will consist of, teaching children health practices, helping administer vaccines, teaching English reading and writing, and supporting the clinical research team through operational support.
Vive Perú will be giving me the privilege to learn about the backends of how a non-profit maintains a healthy and trusting relationship with the community that they serve. Also, I will be observing how they work in partnership with medical professionals and local schools.
What will your donations cover?
For this fundraising campaign, it will cover the following:
- Flight
- Room and board
- Local transportation
- Food
- Travel essentials
- Travelers Insurance
- And extra money will be donated to Vive Perú, once we exceed the goal!
How else can you help?
I encourage everyone who made it this far to please share this with others. Sharing this fundraiser with your friends, family, and colleagues who might be interested, would be greatly appreciated. If a donation cannot be made, that is okay! Spreading the word is just as valuable and meaningful to me!
To express my gratitude!
Everyone who follows me on social media will receive live updates and photos from my trip. Those who donate will receive a postcard from Peru with a handwritten thank-you note. Additionally, as a token of my gratitude, I will send an emailed photo album with exclusive pictures from my globalization trip.
Lastly, donors who contribute over $150 will automatically be entered to win a special souvenir from Peru. There will be two winners.
Again, I appreciate you all and I appreciate your support. Let's make a change!
Thank you! :)
