Background:

I am reaching out on behalf of Crystal Marie, a dear friend to many of us, a wife, a mamá, a cherished chosen sister, a member of our community -- a kind heart.

On July 15, 2024, Crystal Marie noticed she was experiencing difficulty breathing. After a visit to her local Urgent Care, she received the unfortunate news that there is an abnormal growth near her heart—a mediastinal tumor growing in the space between her heart and sternum. Initially, doctors thought there might be blood clots causing her to have trouble breathing, but further tests revealed a far more serious condition. Something far beyond what we could have imagined. Far beyond what we are prepared for.

Crystal has since been referred to “No Sleepless Nights,” a program for possible cancer patients triggered by abnormal diagnostic imaging findings.

6 days later, A PET scan was scheduled, and the results were alarming. The growth was confirmed as abnormal, and further testing, including a biopsy and blood work, is urgently needed to determine the exact nature of the mass. The possibility of it being “nothing” is no longer an option, and it has become painfully clear to Crystal, her husband Keenan, her chosen son Aireus, and myself - that she is not okay.

In just 2 weeks, the mass has grown by 2 cm, and her doctors have admitted her to the hospital. The biopsy, which will now take place today, August 2nd, and additional bloodwork will hopefully provide a clear diagnostic and next steps.

Why We Need Your Help:

Before this, Crystal was already dealing with a herniated disc and recently diagnosed liver disease, which has impacted her ability to work full time. She has been in treatment and as a result, is unable to work full time. With the newest developments, the financial strain is becoming overwhelming for Crystal and her family.

Admittedly, Crystal is scared, and so are we. As we wait for a proper diagnosis, we are seeking support during this frightening time. We are asking our community for support to help her and her family navigate this difficult time. The funds raised will be used to cover:

Please note, regarding out financial goal: As Crystal's condition becomes more clear and we are beginning to understand the implications of her long-term care, we are recognizing the immense cost of care and support she will need. These conditions she had prior to the heart mass, combined with the current situation, likely require ongoing care that could add to extreme financial burden. At this time we do not have a definitive idea, but do know that the costs will mount quickly, and she needs immediate financial support during these moments, and in preparation for what's to come.
