Crystal McLear is a dear friend of our community and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northtowns and has fallen on hard times.
On November 30th, 2009, she was diagnosed with stage 4 medullary thyroid cancer, which unfortunately has no cure. Since that time, she has had many recurrences and all sorts of health issues arising from this. She is currently on chemotherapy medication for the rest of her life. Taking this chemotherapy medication has most recently caused a rare bacterial infection keeping her in the hospital and away from her family, friends and coworkers for the past 15 days. Despite all the hardships, Crystal is a beautiful soul who always shows up with a smile. She always has a positive attitude, and puts others before herself at all times. She is an inspiration to us all, teaching us to appreciate what we have and shine our brightest light no matter what challenges we face.
Crystal works as a Front Desk Associate at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northtowns, and has formed great relationships with all of our staff, our kids, and our families. Her main source of income, however, is her husband Scott’s physical labor job. Scott has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and will soon be getting surgery to have a defibrillator placed. This will make him unable to work for several months at which time they will have very little to no income to support their family of 5, making things extremely difficult financially.
With the support of friends, family, the community and coworkers, we will be holding a benefit for Crystal and Scott on Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 5pm to 9pm. It will be a bash from the past, with a roller rink 90s theme. There will be baskets a chance for a 50/50 drawing, sweet jams from the 90's as well as food and beverages! Tickets will be $10 at the door. Even if you can't make this epic event, any additional donations of cash or baskets would be very much appreciated! Crystal is a shining light in our lives and community and it’s time we give back!
