Support CrossFit Survivor's Comeback Journey
Donation protected
in 2015, I started CrossFit to stay healthy and active after years of competitive sports, little did I know what this would turn into and what CrossFit would do to my life. After 3 years of competing and sticking with it, I woke up one morning unable to walk, unable to get dressed, and extremely confused. With help from my sister, I was rushed to Butterworth hospital and immediately sent into emergency surgery to remove clots from my Middle Cerebral artery in my brain. I had suffered a massive stroke resulting in multiple deficits to myself. My entire left side of my body was paralyzed, I could not eat solid food or even breathe on my own. This lead to me being intubated for a few days, however this did not mean I was in the clear. As a result of the trauma, my brain started to swell, which can be extremely fatal. Since the outlook was grim, my parents and family were forced to face difficult situations/decisions such as saying their last words to me and the task of planning end of life celebrations if the worst case happened. After 2 weeks in the ICU, I was transferred to Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital where I began intense rehabilitation and therapy. With the help of incredible care, I slowly regained the ability to walk, talk, and use my left arm/hand again. After about a month in rehabilitation I was then discharged and sent home. This is when I decided to go back to CrossFit and try to adapt it to my current needs and use it as a form of rehab for my body. Since then, I’ve continued to set big goals for myself despite the massive and scary setback including running a half marathon, graduating college, starting a family, and qualifying for the CrossFit Games! I am so incredibly honored to have the opportunity to compete with an amazing adaptive community and continue to prove the statistics wrong. I was never supposed to be able to walk, be independent, or do the things I am doing, so I greatly appreciate all of your support! All donations will go directly to travel funds, games registration. And food while we are in San Antonio.
