Donna Case

Donna Case is in the hospital, fighting pneumonia, again. Donna suffers from Dysautonomia, POTS, Ehlers-Danlos, small fibre neuropathy, a tumour inside her left distal femur, multiple Syrinx’s on her spine causing pressure on her spinal cord, and a Meningioma in her brain that was caused by radiation as a child. There is more… but you get the idea here.   She went into emergency not being able to breathe hardly, and even her pacemaker was not keeping up with the high demand on her heart. She is in isolation in the hospital, and needs love, prayers, and urgent financial support.

Donna fought for her life as a child with High-Risk Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Lymphoma during a 3.5-year protocol. Now she’s in an all-new battle possibly due to the damage from the very treatments that saved her young life. Donna is the kindest, sweetest, most loving person and I’m honoured to call her my best friend. I’m Ashley Laird Braun, and Donna and I grew up in Kelowna, BC. While Donna currently lives in Calgary, I’m in Kelowna.

Stories From The Heart

32 years young, Donna, is still recovering from pacemaker surgery this past spring after suffering arrhythmia’s, Long QT syndrome and tachycardia. Complicating her healing process from any small procedure or large surgery, she’s afflicted with Elher’s-Danlos, a connective tissue disease, which causes wounds to heal slowly, and painful subluxations/dislocations to occur regularly.

Donna faces more complex problems than most people could fathom. Having exhausted conventional specialists for the last 4 years, she is seeking private care through The Hoffman Centre for Innovative Medicine, which is the likes of it’s own ‘Mayo Clinic’, but in Calgary. Dr. Hoffman just confirmed Donna has a very severe case of Mast Cell Activation and that she needs a bone marrow biopsy ASAP. There is evidence that she is most likely experiencing a Low Grade Leukemia recurrence. If caught early enough, she will hopefully have a fighting chance. She also needs a new central line, as she has no more vein access. Most people wouldn’t even understand how many needles / IV’s it takes to not have viable veins left.

Often it’s a struggle for Donna to get out of bed to function. Some days are okay and she can enjoy sitting at her electric piano to play and sing for short time, and other days end up with emergency trips to the hospital. Autonomic flares and histamine related episodes happen where her throat closes up on her for no apparent reason.

More Complex Medical Needs = More Out Of Pocket Expense

Friends and family have been creatively supporting her, but the reality is Alberta Health Services does not cover most of her medical expenses due to the complexity and rare diagnoses. The out of pocket expenses keep climbing astronomically.

Please help our angel of a friend to take off the financial burden, so she can find answers to attain the good health she deserves, by getting through more procedures and treatments.

Donna lost her Dad to a heartbreaking battle with ALS in 2014, and her Mom, who was her advocate and care support, to a massive stroke in 2017. Even so, Donna reminds us to smile through adversity, and to ‘Live each day to the fullest with a heart of gratitude and to love one another as Christ loves us.’

Financially Speaking…

If anyone wishes to assist Donna on a monthly direct deposit basis instead of a one-time gift on gofundme, please contact me, Ashley, directly. Predicted costs to support her medical needs are $80,000 to cover her through procedures, expensive monthly medicine (specially compounded and not covered by AHS), support her living costs during surgery to remove meningioma from brain, and care staff cost through recoveries for the next year. It’s over $30,000 alone just for diagnostic tests through Hoffman Centre, not including treatments and follow-up appointments.

Donna’s Gift to Everyone

Everyone who visits this page please enjoy Donna’s Christmas CD she recorded as a child both during treatment (age 5), and post treatment (age 7). It’s her gift to you all. XO

Thank you for blessing Donna with your love, prayers, and financial support. No donation is too big or too small! Please SHARE ‘Critical Hope For Donna Case’s Health’ gofundme with your family, friends, and colleagues. God bless!
