I’m Sarah Scull, a band mom in Creston, Iowa. This year, my son Fletcher's band, the Creston High School Marching Band has been invited to perform at Walt Disney World — a once-in-four-years opportunity and truly the trip of a lifetime.

I'm doing this fundraiser because band has changed my children’s lives. It gave them confidence, belonging, and a community that welcomes everyone. But for 9 of our 70 students, this milestone is financially out of reach.

When my son Fletcher started his freshman year, we quickly adjusted to the expenses of high school activities. But not every family has that ability. Tonight I ran into a band parent working a second job outside of their full-time one. They are going through a divorce and it's been a major financial adjustment. Even with two incomes, they can’t afford to send their child with those legal expenses and the cost of setting up a new life. It got me thinking...they are not alone.

Freshman year should be fun. And this trip — something these kids only get once in their high school careers — should be accessible to the whole band. Right now, too many kids are being shut out, not because they lack talent or effort, but simply because of money.

With Director Mike Peters’ permission, I am fundraising to make sure every student who wants to go can be part of this incredible opportunity. The trip is set for June 8–14, 2026, but payments are due in installments along the way. That means the need is immediate.

If we reach our goal of covering student costs, we will raise the goal to support chaperones as well. Their cost is the same as a student’s, and having caring, responsible, adults along is essential to making the trip safe and successful.

Every gift, no matter the size, helps bring us closer to sending the band as one. Please help us make sure every marcher has their place in the parade.
