Hello lovers of good food and community, fair labor practices and commitment to ecological symbiosis! We are the opening crew of Cream & Crumb, a community oriented worker-owned cooperative in Rutland, Vermont. We are parents with passion for food and sustainability, with nearly 30 years of combined service experience. To open our doors we need your support! We see grassroots funding as one essential piece of our puzzle; you are our community and you are the people we will serve. We are better together, and we hope for your investment in our success, as we are invested in yours!
Our small brunch centered cafe will specialize in local, seasonal food and beverages; a taste of Vermont. Using flavors indigenous to New England, 90% of our goods will be sourced within a 100-mile radius of Rutland, highlighting the flavors of the green mountains and valley, supporting local farmers and producers as well as minimizing the carbon footprint associated with long distance shipping. We will pour from local coffee roasters who directly support their growers around the world. By preserving in house, we will bottle the tastes of the harvest to sweeten our winter. Any animal products you find on your plate or in your cup will come from the pastures in our collective back yard, or perhaps, on special occasion, straight from small fisheries on the Atlantic.
As a worker owned cooperative we are built on passion, not just paycheck; Intent on sustainable practices and providing an equitable, rewarding work environment for our staff. As we grow, new members will share the success of their labor. By backing us, you're not just indulging in fantastic food, you're supporting a sustainable business model that prioritizes both delicious meals and worker well-being. Please join us in building a brighter food future!
We are aiming to open in late September at 96 Strongs Ave, former home of the Tastee Bakery! The initial investment in any food business is large and sometimes out of reach. Some of our funding will come from traditional loans, but we know our mission of creating good jobs is more attainable without extensive debt. Any funding you provide will go toward our opening costs (our POS system, local farm accounts), our inherited equipment repairs (Tastee bakerys' beautiful oven and mixers), plumbing and electrical work for our kitchen since the building has been empty for over a decade, and permits for all that work!
We look forward to feeding you this fall, and appreciate any support you can offer us!
